Why Join BAPE

Since its establishment in 1964, The Barbados Association of Professional Engineers has remained committed to protecting the interest of engineers and enhancing the status and image of the Engineering profession in Barbados, by establishing and observing high ethical standards of conduct. The Association also works with the National Engineers Registration Board to preserve the safety and welfare of the public by ensuring that the practice of engineering in Barbados is restricted to properly qualified persons.
BAPE membership offers a variety of benefits, but more importantly it provides engineers the opportunity to contribute to the development of their profession. Membership in the Association represents a sign of achievement in the industry and demonstrates to the wider society that your qualities are recognised by your peers.
Benefits of membership include:

Networking

Many opportunities exist to meet and interact with other professionals in your field. Making contacts and learning about what is happening in other areas of the industry can be an invaluable resource in your career development.

Continuing Education and Professional Development

Rapid advances in technology and an ethical responsibility to the public we serve, make it necessary for us as professionals to continuously update our knowledge and skills. Information coming out of global trade negotiations in the FTAA and WTO suggests that participation in professional development programmes will be a future requirement for trade in professional services. The Association encourages members to stay abreast of technological changes in their respective areas of practice, and manages a Continued Professional Development (CPD) programme for its members. The CPD programme requires that members complete a minimum number of technical and non-technical professional development activities each year, and submit records of their participation to the Association. A number of activities hosted by BAPE carry CPD value.

Mentorship

A mentorship programme is available to assist and guide engineering students and graduates in their professional development.

Camaraderie

For many members, the social aspects of membership are as compelling a reason as any to become a member. Many events and activities are hosted by the Association to bring the engineering fraternity together, and allow members to socialize with their peers in a relaxed environment. These include monthly guest speaker luncheons, an annual black-tie dinner, a week of activities etc.

Participation on National and Regional Organizations and Committees

Opportunities are provided for members to participate on national and regional organizations and committees. BAPE is currently represented on the:

Advocacy

The Association unifies the voice of the local engineering profession and provides an effective vehicle for the communication of ideas and views on National issues that either have a direct impact on the profession or that would benefit from the input of engineers.

Scholarships

Four engineering scholarships are available to student and graduate members.
All local engineers are encouraged to become members of the Association, and join us in our continued efforts to build and promote our profession.
