Council of Caribbean Engineering Organisations holds A.G.M.

 

The Annual General Meeting of the CCEO was held at the UWI St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad on Wednesday April 13, 2005. 

Delegates from Barbados, Grenada, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago attended the meeting.

Engineer Tony Gibbs, director of CEP, was elected to the post of Secretary General at the meeting.

Outgoing Secretary General, Prof. Clement Imbert gave an overview of the activities over the past terms and agreed to continue to assist in the area of accreditation and training.

A number of important decisions were taken at the meeting and it is generally expected that the regional organisation will now take on a much more dynamic role in matters related to the profession in the region.

Among the initiatives to be implemented in the coming years are:

  1. The establishment of an executive committee of management to work with the Secretary General in managing the affairs of the CCEO.
  2. The establishment of a close working relation with Caricom and the RNM to safeguard the interest of Engineering as we move into the era of CSME.
  3. Revival of the various national engineering Associations to active status and full involvement in CCEO.
  4. Seek to implement a regional approach to professional registration
  5. Introduce a common regional professional designation such as CarEng (Caribbean Engineer) to be used as a prefix by properly registered members of national Associations who are members of CCEO.
